British Anchor Pottery Blackthorn Serving Dish With Lid

A Staffordshire covered serving dish with lid, decorated with their beautiful "Blackthorn" pattern. Second-hand.

This is covered serving dish with lid from the British Anchor pottery of Staffordshire in England, and has been decorated in their beautiful "Blackthorn" pattern.

As well as being an attractive display piece, it's very practical and able to keep food warm in between servings. It appears to be from the mid 20th century, so assume that it is not dishwasher safe and wash by hand in warm water.

Who made it and when?

It was made by the Staffordshire-based British Anchor pottery. Underneath is their mark of an anchor and laurel leaves which reads:

  • Blackthorn
  • England

They added the laurel leaves in 1913 and ceased production in the 1970s.

What condition is it in?

  • Second-hand
  • In very good condition
  • No damage
  • There are some small paint marks inside, under the glaze

What are the measurements?

  • 10cm high (4 inches)
  • 20cm in diameter (just under 8 inches)
  • 800 grams
