What's for sale?

This is a large, oval serving platter in Mason's Ironstone red "Vista" pattern. It's a large plate which spans 15 inches or 38.5cm.

Vista was an attractive, classical pattern available in red, pink, blue and brown. The larger pieces like this had the gadrooned edge, which just adds a touch of quality to its appearance.

Ironstone was the name used by Staffordshire potteries to describe their strong and long-lasting, vitreous earthenware. As other manufacturers began to produce it, the name became more widespread.

Large platters are an excellent way to present food and are perfect for Christmas dinner. Old china tableware can continue to be used and enjoyed, but it shouldn't be put in a dishwasher or left immersed in hot water. Wash by hand with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Who made it and when?

The Vista pattern was popular and produced over a long period. From the mark, this was made during the 1940s. It reads:

  • patent ironstone
  • england
  • guaranteed permanent acid resisting colours

What condition is it in?

  • Second-hand
  • In very good condition
  • No chips or cracks
  • It looks unused
