What's for sale?

This is a medium-sized, Victorian era, china jug by the Staffordshire pottery of Myott, Son & Co Ltd.

It's in this beautiful, green version of their Argyle pattern, also found in blue. We think the green is the better looking and more natural choice.

The pattern also features gold highlights, picking out the edges of the flowers and leaves. And around the base and rim are moulded patterns of vertical lines and draped swirls, which echo that Victorian style.

Who made it and when?

It was made by the Staffordshire pottery company Myott Son & Co. Ltd of Stoke-on-Trent, in Staffordshire, England. The maker's mark on the base dates it between 1989 and 1902 and reads:

  • M S & Co

What condition is it in?

  • Second-hand
  • In good to very good condition
  • No chips or cracks
  • There is some faint crazing, most visible on the inside and on the front
  • The white glaze is thin around the bottom of the body and base, and appears as beige discolouration

What are the measurements?

  • 20.5cm high (8 inches)
  • 18cm from spout to handle (7 inches)
  • 661 grams
