What's for sale?
This is a large, earthenware water jug, branded for the French liqueur brand Suze. It's a nice-looking jug in bright yellow with embossed lettering in black.
Promotional water jugs have always been produced in fairly large numbers for use in bars and restaurants. Jugs for the Suze brand are rarer and harder to find in this good condition.
The Suze liqueur is flavoured with gentian root, which some believe aids digestion and gives the liqueur a spicy, fruity and slightly bitter taste. Traditionally it's served neat, but can be mixed with tonic, orange or cola.
Of course, a jug called "Suze" also makes a good present for any Sue, Susan, Suzanne, or Susie you might know.
Who made it?
We think this was made by Faïence Moulin des Loups, from Orchies in Northern France. The maker's marks on the base read:
- An impressed windmill

- MDL Tru. 28 09
What condition is it in?
