What's for sale?
This is a set of four, signed, cut-to-clear, crystal wine glasses in four complementary colours. They were made by the renowned Belgian glass maker Val St. Lambert and cut in their Berncastel pattern.
The Berncastel pattern is a cut which shows high quality workmanship. Alternating around the bowl are foliage and crosshatch panels of differing sizes. There's also quality below, with a faceted stem, a single, faceted knop and a foot with radiating cuts. They're signed on the underside of each foot. This pattern was introduced in around 1959 and has been out of production for some time.
Cut-to clear describes the technique of layering coloured glass over clear glass and then cutting a pattern to reveal the clear glass beneath.
